I had two goals for the race; to enjoy running with my brother and to one-up my “costume” from last year. I figured the first one would be easy, the second one on the other hand, not so much. I considered not wearing a brief but when I circulated that idea at the expo, it was met with extreme heartbreak from J&A leadership. I didn’t want to disappoint, so I decided to “cowboy up.”

Gav, ready to roll
Pre-race strategy meeting
Last year I was pretty nervous about wearing so little but it was much easier this year. I guess I am just getting used to it. It’s fun to see people’s reactions; they range from laughter to genuine terror. I get a kick out of it. Here are the top 5 comments I received:
5. “Hey it’s a naked cowboy” – Various street spectators
4. “OH MY GOD, look at that guy!” – Anonymous racer (obviously a Wicked 10k rookie)
3. “Looks like there is a new Sheriff in town” – A cougar dressed as Snow White
2. “So Officer, are you going to arrest me?” – Same cougar
And at number 1, the comment that made me wish I was wearing a pair of sweatpants and a long coat:
1. “I should chase that” – unidentified female voice (from behind)
This was my brother’s first big race and it was cool to get a chance to spend the day with him, do the race and enjoy the post race festivities. Actually, we may have enjoyed the post race festivities a little too much as I did not feel great the next day.
Time to party!
More post-race fun
See you next year
